I have spoke to Serge and he has okayed all of this.
p. 188 of the main book (not the MET book) describes "Pooling Resources". What I think the Tremere should do is pool our Background Resources so that everyone in the Chantry can benefit.
Serge has said that any specific Background (Allies, Contacts, Herd, Influence Elite, Influence Underworld, Resources and Retainers) can be donated to the Chantry at cost, but any xp that is donated and used to buy Backgrounds needs to be purchased at the Elder level.
As such, it would be better to obtain an donate specific Backgrounds rather than donating xp...Neonates should NOT donate xp, better to buy the Background and donate it, due to the cost reduction for Neonates...Elders it doesn't really matter as the cost would be the same.
The Chantry is being considered the "Anchor" and currently has the following as per the Haven Background Rules
- Guards - 1 (Grimm and his Security Force...if they survived...although, I think that the Security Force would be the "Guards" and Grimm a "Retainer" below)
- Library - 1
- Location - 1
- Luxury - 1
- Security - 1
- Size 1
- Staff - 1
- Occult - 1
This gives the Chantry Anchor a total of 8, so any Background can be purchased up to a level of 8...obviously they can only be bought to 5 but the Influence Background is the one that can be purchased up to 8, unless we increase the Anchor to 10+ (which can only be done by purchasing another 2 levels of Retainer)
The advantages to this as a Clan are huge. Everyone gains access to all of the Backgrounds.
This is how the Clan should operate.
Nothing prevents PCs from holding their own Backgrounds, this just adds to it.
I have already added to the Backgrounds.
Kaspar has placed 4 dots of Resources, 1 dot of Retainer (The Brujah Grimm), 1 dot of Security (Grimm's Security Force) that he essentially stole when James DUNWICH was destroyed.
These now are at the beck and call of all Tremere that need them.
What I think we should, as a group do, is decide what would be most beneficial for the Chantry and focus on that. Instead of taking Boons, we take Backgrounds...that is how Kaspar got the 4 dots of Resources.
Buying with xp is expensive for Elders. IC obtaining of Backgrounds is far cheaper, especially from Neonates.
So, what do people think? Is it something that we should, as a Clan, focus on, or is it something we should forget it, and just go our own way?
If people don't buy into it, as a concept, then it really is kind of pointless.
